MARUNAKA’s application addresses the conductance bottleneck between a vessel and its evacuation system.

The narrow opening can set the pace
A higher pump rating does not always make a test faster. A narrow or long passage can dominate the effective pumping speed and delay delivery of the helium signal.
Controlled preparation
The described sequence first limits the evacuation rate, then uses a vacuum reservoir and pump to reduce pressure further in the outlet path. Tracer gas is introduced into an external enclosure and the detector measures gas entering the evacuated vessel through defects.
A pre-evacuated reservoir can rapidly change pressure in the connected part of the system, but it does not remove the conductance limit of the opening itself.
Results and conditions
The authors compare response times of 16 and 53 seconds, and total times of 30 and 101 seconds, for their particular test conditions. Those values are not a general promise of a threefold improvement for other objects.
The initial gentle evacuation stage protects thin or flexible walls from excessive pressure difference. Before implementing a similar sequence, specify allowable pressures on both sides, reservoir volume and switching points. Check response with a reference leak in a representative defect position.
Cycle time, minimum detectable throughput and specimen safety need separate validation. The document is an application rather than a granted patent; its filing date is 1 October 2025.
